Formula 1 | F1 Italian Grand Prix 2022 presentation and schedule

Presentation and schedules of the Grand (...)

F1’s intense recovery from the summer break continues as the paddock packs its bags in Monza for the 2022 Italian Grand Prix. also of the last European race of the year in Formula 1.

After Pierre Gasly in 2020 and Daniel Ricciardo in 2021, will we have a new unexpected winner at Monza? Hard to imagine, when only one place on the podium has not been occupied by Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes F1 this year.

It was Lando Norris at Imola, and one can imagine that the gap between the leading teams and the peloton will be significant, in line with previous Grands Prix. Nevertheless, Monza often reserves twists thanks to the entry into the track of the safety car.

The plot:

With its historic flavor, Monza is one of the most prestigious races on the calendar. On its current layout, Monza is fast and flowing thanks to its long straights and famous chicanes. The best-known corner is the last one: the Curva Alboreto conditions the 1.4Km start-finish line and has hosted superb overtaking in 62 years of F1.

1/2 turns—The pit straight tightens before the Rettifilio. The curbs are truly overlapped by the pilots looking for the shortest and most direct trajectory in this sequence.

Turn 3 – You have to keep the rhythm in the Curva Grande, where a good suction can be useful before the heavy braking forming an overtaking zone at the entrance to the left-right of the Variant Roggia.

4/5 turns – Even though this chicane is much faster than the first one, the curbs are again exploited to the fullest. Any excess can destabilize the single-seaters and break the speed up to the Lesmo.

6/7 turns – The Lesmo attack at more than 260 km/h, and at 180 km/h minimum for the tighter second straight. There are often only a handful of F1 cars there due to their relative lack of downforce.

Cornering 8/9/10 – Approached in third gear before quickly shifting into fourth gear, the Ascari variant requires extreme precision. The first left and the following right are negotiated at least at 170 km/h before accelerating into the final left where the cars brush the outside curb to swallow the opposite straight.

Turn 11 – At around 335 km/h, the drivers brake and downshift into fourth gear to challenge the right-hander of the one that has changed its name and is therefore called Curva Alboreto. Since 2014, the gravel in the clearance zone has been replaced by bitumen, resulting in increasingly late braking at its entrance.

Forces present:

After the winding track of Zandvoort, Monza will mark the return of F1 on a fast track closer to the physiognomy of Spa-Francorchamps. In fact, we can expect a clear domination of Red Bull on the land of Ferrari.

The top speed of the Red Bull RB18 will be a real advantage against the Ferrari F1-75 and the significant drag of the Mercedes W13. If the race is not disrupted as it has been in previous years, it is difficult to imagine victory escaping Max Verstappen or Sergio Pérez.

Behind, Alpine F1 could also benefit from its good top speed, and from a single-seater which is less in difficulty than the McLaren in slow corners, to be a solid fourth force in the pack.
